About Burke Industries

Burke Industries is a family-owned contractor based in Harristown, Toowoomba, and registered since 1987. We carry out demolition, asbestos removal, contaminated soil removal, earthmoving and civil works, and fire hydrant installation for government and commercial clients across the Darling Downs, and recycle most of what we demolish.

A Toowoomba company since 1987

The company was registered in Queensland on 21 May 1987 and traded under director Andy Burke's name for its first ten years. In 1997 it became Burke Industries Pty Ltd, reflecting a business that had grown into several trades and divisions. It is still family-owned and run from Toowoomba.

Our roots in the city go back further than most of the buildings we now work on. When we demolished High Street Plaza, Andy had worked on the original shopping centre development about 35 years earlier.

Our base in Harristown

We operate from 60–62 Condamine Street, Harristown, with our own concrete recycling facility in Toowoomba. Being local means our crews, plant and recycling are close to most jobs on the Darling Downs.

Why our services sit together

Our services grew out of demolition work. Each step used to mean handing the site to another contractor. Bringing them in-house means one program, one safety system and one point of contact from strip-out to a finished pad.

    Asbestos removal

Asbestos likely to be disturbed is identified and removed before the building comes down.

Our fire hydrant installation work comes from the same commercial building background.

What we stand for

Safety planned before work starts

Demolition, asbestos removal and deep excavation are high risk construction work. We plan to remove risk before crews reach site: safe work method statements, isolation procedures, high risk work permits and independent verification such as asbestos air monitoring and clearance inspections. Our team is police checked.

Recover, don't landfill

We aim to recycle at least 85% of demolition material. Concrete is crushed at our own Toowoomba facility into 20-minus road base, free-draining aggregate and oversize. Recycled material attracts no Queensland waste levy.

Licences you can check

We publish our licence numbers so buyers can check them on the public registers.

Director

Andy Burke

Andy leads the business. About 35 years ago he worked on the original High Street Plaza development in Toowoomba, which Burke Industries later demolished and recycled.

6

Asbestos supervisors

We have six nominated asbestos removal supervisors. Queensland law requires a nominated supervisor to oversee licensed asbestos removal work.

Operators and crews

Our plant operators hold the high risk work licences and verifications of competency their machines require. Crews work across our demolition, asbestos, civil and recycling divisions, as they did together on High Street Plaza.

Where we work

We work across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, and take on projects elsewhere in Queensland and in Northern NSW.
