Demolition
Whole buildings, blocks and outbuildings on operating sites, with asbestos removed first, services isolated and the site made good.
Burke Industries delivers demolition, Class A asbestos removal, contaminated soil removal, civil works and fire hydrant upgrades on government and council sites across Queensland. Our work for Defence, QBuild, Queensland Health, Transport and Main Roads and Toowoomba Regional Council is on the public record, and so are our licence numbers.
Government sites rarely need just one trade. A school block might need asbestos removal, demolition, stormwater changes and a hydrant relocation. A depot might need contaminated soil out before new works start. We hold the licences to deliver these under one program, with one set of controls and one handover pack.

Demolition, asbestos disturbance, deep excavation and work near energised services are high risk construction work, so every job starts with safe work method statements. Licensed asbestos removal has a control plan, five days' notice to WorkSafe Queensland, and independent air monitoring and clearance where required. Notifiable demolition gets its own five-day notice. On occupied sites such as schools, offices and health facilities, we stage work around building users and keep exclusion zones and access controls in place until clearance.
Government clients need evidence, not assurances. Agree the document list in the contract and expect it at each stage.
Licence copies, safe work method statements, the asbestos removal control plan, WorkSafe Queensland notifications, and a demolition plan where more than one business is on site
Air monitoring results from the independent licensed asbestos assessor on friable jobs, and records of site controls
Clearance certificates, waste and recycling records by material, confirmation of service disconnections, and a site condition record
We aim to recycle at least 85% of demolition material. Concrete is crushed at our own Toowoomba facility into 20-minus road base, free-draining aggregate and oversize, which can go back into the same project or other public works. On the High Street Plaza redevelopment, over 85% of material was recycled and about 8,000 tonnes of crushed concrete went back to the site.
For council and state projects with resource recovery targets, set the target by material in the contract and ask for receiving facilities for each stream. Recycled material attracts no Queensland waste levy, and clean concrete costs a fraction of general waste at Toowoomba Regional Council's facilities.
Send us the site, the asbestos register and your program. We'll arrange a site assessment and give you a scoped price with the licences, notifications and handover documents set out.
